Description

This easy Halloween chocolate cake recipe is rich, moist, and perfect for spooky celebrations. Decorated with spiderweb icing and candy eyeballs, it’s the ultimate festive dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Dry Ingredients:
    • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
    • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for a Halloween twist)
  • Wet Ingredients:
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup whole milk
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 1 cup boiling water
  • For Decoration:
    • White icing for spiderwebs
    • Candy eyeballs
    • Orange and black sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Mix the Batter: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and thin.
  • Bake the Cake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Decorate the Cake: Once cooled, decorate the cake with spiderweb icing by drawing concentric circles and using a toothpick to create the web effect. Add candy eyeballs and sprinkles for a spooky Halloween touch.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute the boiling water with freshly brewed coffee.
  • The cake layers can be made ahead of time and frozen for up to one month. Thaw before decorating.
